We all know that brushing and flossing your teeth is the best thing you can do for your smile, but did you know that many Americans make mistakes when they brush their teeth? To help you avoid these missteps, we’re happy to list three of the most common.
- While you should brush at least twice a day—and it’s fine to brush three times in a single day—brushing four or more is probably excessive. In fact, brushing too often or too hard may damage your gums and enamel. It is also important to brush for two minutes.
- When you brush your teeth, try to remember if you’ve eaten something acidic. We recommend waiting for 30 minutes before you brush your teeth because acids weaken enamel, and can leave your teeth vulnerable.
- Do you find yourself starting with the same tooth every time you brush? If you do, you may not be giving each tooth the attention it needs. To prevent this problem, we recommend starting with a different tooth every time brush.
